“VHVH gave me what I needed. I can’t point to one person or one thing that made the difference, it was the combination of help that turned my life around.”
Tim is a U.S. Navy veteran and graduate of VHVH. After leaving the Navy, Tim worked as a truck driver and lived near his parents and other family. After his parents fell ill and passed away Tim’s life began to come apart – substance abuse, a stint in prison, job loss and estrangement from his family. All of these factors led to homelessness.
Finally, Tim decided he had to address his substance abuse and resulting health issues. He committed to change, got help through the VA and learned about VHVH. “VHVH restored the sense of community, of family, that is so important to me. The guys there understood me. The staff gave me encouragement and guidance, but didn’t pressure me. They gave me the time and renewed the hope I needed to get back on my feet,” explains Tim.
The VHVH program helped Tim rebuild his life. Training with Goodwill helped Tim get work that fits his capabilities. He earned enough so that once he graduated from VHVH Tim has moved into his own home. He has also renewed his relationship with his family and his church.
Tim described VHVH’s impact on him, “VHVH gave me what I needed. I can’t point to one person or one thing that made the difference, it was the combination of help that turned my life around.”
